Experience the power of nature: holidays in Carinthia

5 ideas for an unforgettable holiday in Carinthia’s natural paradise

Spending time in nature is proven to benefit our physical and mental health, so prioritise your wellbeing on holiday! Nature soothes, stimulates, reduces stress, and even boosts your immune system!

Put on your hiking boots for the best nature holidays

From Carinthia’s many hiking trails, breathtaking views stretch across borders into Slovenia and Italy. Take a stiff climb up to the summits of the Hohe Tauern National Park where your reward is to wander through alpine meadows strewn with wildflowers. Or take a Slow Trail along the shores of one of the many beautiful lakes. If you’re quiet in the mountains you may surprise a marmot, or spot a magnificent bird of prey. Set your spirit free on a hiking holiday in Carinthia, where there are trails for all levels of fitness and ability.

Enjoy Carinthia’s camping holidays

Pitch your tent beneath dappled woodland shade. Or camp beside a bathing lake that reaches temperatures of 28 degrees celcius in summer. Open the tent flap to views of a stunning mountain landscape. Whether you are looking to relive childhood memories or create new ones on family nature holidays, Carinthia has many, very special camping places to make your dreams come true.

Family nature holidays by the lake

Carinthia is the land of lakes and holidays in lakeside hotels and cottages are a brilliant way to experience nature in comfort. Imagine waking up every morning to a view of still blue water reflecting the surrounding mountains. Take a refreshing swim in the warm summer water. Or a long walk around the lakeshore through autumnal woods. The icy brilliance of a frozen lake in winter is simply breathtaking. From romantic Millstatter See to the vivid turquoise of Lake Faak, Carinthia’s many lakes welcome you to the best nature holidays.

Cycling holidays: nature all around

The wind in your face; the scent of wildflowers on the breeze; stopping beside a pristine lake for a wild swimming break on a hot afternoon. Cycling puts you in the midst of nature in a different way. You can cover a lot more ground on your bike than on foot, allowing you to see more, do more and experience more. Carinthia has outstanding cycling holidays and excellent bike hire and repair infrastructure to support them. Complete a few sections of the Alpe Adria Trail or the Drau Cycle Route. Or explore the gentle, circular routes around Lake Faak or Lake Ossiach.

The warmth of Austrian hospitality and the richness of our rural traditions make Carinthia a perfect place to enjoy a farm stay holiday. Where better for kids to get in touch with nature than while climbing trees, getting to know animals, and gaining a deeper understanding of how we can live in sustainable harmony with the planet. The roaring waters of the Gnoppnitzbach river create a relaxing backdrop to your walk. The trail leads directly from the town centre of Greifenburg and takes about an hour.
