Wolfsberg

The urban municipality of Wolfsberg has a historic old town with numerous places of interest, such as St Mark’s Church or Wolfsberg Castle.

The natural paradise of the Koralpe, Klippitztörl and Saualpe offers a wide variety of leisure facilities in both summer and winter, and plenty of space for recreation. The Saualpe in particular is considered a popular hiking paradise for families. The Koralpe and Klippitztörl attract skiers who prefer small but perfectly formed winter sports locations.

The magnificent neo-Gothic Tudor style Wolfsberg Castle watches over the town from on high. The state rooms are available for events and weddings. (Guided tours are only possible with prior notification or during exhibitions, and there is a cafe/restaurant in the castle. All the other rooms are private and cannot be visited.) The view from the castle terrace is breathtaking.

In the Haus der Region [regional promotional centre] you can find the treasures of the Lavant Valley under one roof, which acts as a “shop window” for beekeepers, wine makers, farmers, heritage groups and many more.

The Museum im Lavanthaus has interesting information on display about the unique nature of the Lavant Valley. The artists born in Wolfsberg who are famous beyond its borders include the writer Christine Lavant and Switbert Lobisser.
