Neuhaus

In Neuhaus healthy enjoyment matters, and the people are committed to buckwheat, which is known as “Had’n” here.

The pink-flowered “Had’n” is gluten-free and an ideal food for the health-conscious. The “Jauntaler Had´n” initiative is actively campaigning to prevent this traditional cultured plant being forgotten.

Tip: In Schwabegg there is a “Had’n” information centre with a show mill and salesroom. It is just here on the village square that the annual “Had’n” Festival has taken place annually for more than 20 years, attracting up to 4,000 visitors.

Culture vultures should visit the Museum Liaunig without fail. The striking building has listed status and has been awarded the Austrian Museum Prize. Inside it houses one of the largest collections of Austrian art from 1945, supplemented by earlier representatives of classical modernism as well as illustrative works of international artists. There are also interesting and changing special exhibitions.

Neuhaus is part of the Geopark Karawanken and visitors are also delighted by the wonderful natural surroundings. Nature lovers should be sure not to miss the Water Trail. Cyclists on the Drau Cycle Path cross the Santa Lucia suspension bridge in the Neuhaus area – this is the longest steel rope suspension bridge in Austria.
