While some people like to have breakfast on the terrace, others like to row across the lake with their picnic basket to the wooded southern shore, and others still are drawn to the mountains. There, at the Alexanderhütte, is the start of the “Weg der Liebe. Sentiero dell´Amore”, a section of the Millstätter See High Altitude Trail with wonderful views. The Garnet Gate is not only a nod towards the largest deposit of garnet in the Alps that can be found here inside the mountain, but it also opens up a long-distance view to the Hohe Tauern. Enjoy an encounter with the lake and the mountain that might well finish with “dinner for two on the island for two” in the middle of the lake. Autumn on the lake: In September and October the prime seats around the lake are transformed into festive tables.
