There are about 8,000 managed alpine pastures and meadows in Austria. They are pure nature, valued holiday destinations and important economic areas. The interplay of recreational tourism and traditional alpine pasture management is a proven recipe for success: guests get a nature-based recreational experience, and tourism in turn increases the value added throughout the region. Austria’s unique cultural landscape will only remain well-tended and freely accessible if animals continue to be raised in the alpine pastures and if these are managed throughout the country. That is why we will continue to rely on good coexistence on Austria’s alpine pastures and meadows in the future. Austria’s farmers make an important contribution to the preservation of our alpine landscape. We ask visitors to show respect for this beautiful landscape.
