The 3G Rule refers to "Geimpft, Genesen, Getestet" (vaccinated, recovered, tested). In all tourist areas (gastronomy, hotel industry, leisure and sports facilities, etc.), a 3G certificate is no longer necessary. There are also no more pandemic-related curfews & person caps.

When visiting hospitals, homes for the elderly, nursing homes & homes for the disabled, you need 2G proof (vaccinated/healed) and a valid PCR test.

Only when a series of COVID-19 vaccinations has been concluded can they be used in Austria as evidence in accordance with the 2-G rule (vaccinated or recovered). When two doses of a vaccine are necessary (BioNTech/Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca), the vaccination certificate is valid from the date of the second dose, whereas in the case of Janssen/Johnson & Johnson the vaccination certificate is valid from the 22nd day after the vaccination was received.
In the case of persons who have recovered and only receive one dose, the vaccination certificate is immediately valid.

Validity period from 01.02.2022: The first vaccination series (2 vaccinations or recovery + 1 vaccination) is valid for 180 days. The booster vaccination certificate (3 vaccinations or recovery + 2 vaccinations) is valid for 365 days. For entry into Austria, vaccination certificates or other proofs of vaccination are still valid for 365 days.

Please note: From 3 January 2022, a vaccination certificate for a single dose of the Janssen/Johnson&Johnson vaccine is no longer valid.

The obligation to present a 3G certificate does not apply to persons who cannot be vaccinated for health reasons. In such cases, proof of a negative PCR test, which must not be older than 72 hours, must be presented together with a medical certificate. Children under the age of 12 are also excluded from the 3-G-rule.

1.) Every holiday guest can pick up five gargle PCR tests/month free of charge at participating supermarkets and pharmacies. Please register via the gargle test system https://test.zmdx.at/. Just leave the field "insurance number" empty. For address, the hotel address can also be entered. After registration you can pick up your PCR tests.

The tests carried out at home/in the hotel room can be handed in for analysis at participating SPAR branches (supermarket) or pharmacies.

A list of participating Spar branches & pharmacies can be found HERE. The result will be communicated digitally (via SMS/email) after approx. 24 hours. 

When registering for a test, the address of your accommodation (e.g. of the hotel) must be given.

If you suspect Covid-19, please be sure to register at https://www.141.at/covidverdacht/ (at the moment German only). Alternatively, there is the health telephone number +43 1450, but this is often overloaded. The reporting system is also free of charge for guests/tourists.

Since 01.08.22, there is no longer an obligatory quarantine in case of a Corona disease. If you feel healthy despite a positive Corona result, you may leave your flat or room, as long as you wear an FFP-2 mask. You are not allowed to enter hospitals, nursing homes, facilities for the disabled and health spas, childcare facilities, primary schools and after-school care centres. The mask may only be removed outdoors and at a safe distance of two metres. The disease is still notifiable.

Children up to the age of 5 are do not have to wear a mask. Children between 6 and 13 years of age may wear a mouth-nose protection instead of the FFP2 mask. From the age of 14, an FFP2 mask must be worn.

At the moment, a FFP-2 mask is required. A normal mouth-nose protection is not adequate.
