In the Mittelkärnten/Central Carinthia region an unadulterated natural landscape meets the historic heart of Carinthia. Numerous destinations are just waiting to be explored by bike or on foot, and warm swimming lakes with water pure enough to drink guarantee downtime.
The region is rich in cultural treasures and exciting journeys of discovery. Hochosterwitz Castle looms sublimely on high – and from the top you can also catch sight of nearby Taggenbrunn Castle, which has been extensively restored in recent years. Cast the eye further to see magnificent grapevines flourishing on the mountain slopes.
If you want to know how a castle is built, then take a look over the shoulders of the diligent workers in Friesach, who are building a castle using the medieval methods of 800 years ago.
Numerous museums provide further insights into the history of Carinthia, such as the Auer von Welsbach Museum in Althofen, the Town History Museum in St. Veit, the Metnitztal Folk Tradition Museum or the Heinrich Harrer Museum.
